Star Spangled Scholars is a nonprofit after-school and summer program dedicated to empowering students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become informed, engaged citizens.

Designed for students in grades 4 through 6, our programs provide tailored civics education, mentorship, hands-on learning experiences, and summer job opportunities. Through interactive classes, skills workshops, and practice competitions, we prepare students for the National Civics Bee, an event that challenges young minds to showcase their understanding of democracy, government, and civic engagement. Our students develop critical thinking, debate, and leadership skills, positioning them for success in the competition and beyond.

We aim to serve over 1.1 million students by 2027. Our program offers mentorship from college students studying political science and law, as well as hands-on community engagement projects such as voter registration drives and participation in city council meetings. To further expand students' perspectives, our International Democracy Experience provides select participants with the opportunity to visit thriving democracies in Taiwan and Greece. These educational excursions allow students to engage with government officials, visit historic sites, and gain firsthand exposure to global democratic systems, fostering a deeper understanding of governance beyond U.S. borders.

At Star Spangled Scholars, we believe civics education is the foundation of a strong democracy. Our mission is to ensure that every child, regardless of socioeconomic background, has access to the tools they need to become an active participant in their community and the democratic process. By offering mentorship, real-world civic engagement, the National Civics Bee, and international experiences, we are shaping the next generation of leaders. With the support of educators, community partners, and dedicated volunteers, Star Spangled Scholars is building a future where all students are prepared to make a lasting impact.
